A Red Soda Pop
Fellow WesTexans-
I’m just wondering when the last time a WesTex member checked out the “Blogs” on this website….So I thought I would run a test.
Sooooooooooooo, I will most gladly buy a “Red Soda Pop” for the first person to respond to this infamous BLOG. (Website manager excepted)
Now, for your information, a Barq’s Red Crème Soda back in 1952 cost a whopping 10 cents at Droemer’s BBQ on South Presa, in San Antonio.
As a ninth grader walking along the railroad tracks about 3 miles each afternoon in the fall of ’52 from Brackenridge HS to Page JH to play football, I would veer off on occasion, that is if I had a dime burning a hole in my pocket, to stop at Droemers and pull myself up to the bar on a stool and order a Barq’s Red Crème Soda or Root Beer. What a treat to hydrate with such a fine drink on a hot afternoon after school before practicing football. Those were the days when we played football and ran track barefooted. We were rough and tough in then there days.
When responding to this Blog for your “Big Red” reward, I would ask that you include a short quip about an experience in your “yesteryears,” that you would like to share. Here’s to safe traveling for all. Dan Ives
I’m commenting, but only to let you know it would have been hard to complete your “test.” Comments on blog posts are turned off by default, to deal with spam, so no one would have been able to comment. I’ve turned comments on so we can proceed with the “test” as initially intended. You can turn on comments on any blog post by selecting the Allow Comments check box, a short ways down the blog creation page, under Discussion.
Don’t know that I ever had a Barq’s Red Crème Soda, but my brother and I used to drink Vanilla
Phosphates at my grandparents’ drugstore in Granfalls, TX. Hmmm, good.
As a kid in South Texas, Quemado Valley to be exact, I delivered newspapers in our small community. Every Saturday morning I would stop at Perryman’s Grocery Store and buy a bag of Pan Dulce an a Pomac- The Champaign of Soda Pops- and eat and drink as I rolled my papers, all 13 of them.
To this very day I still like creme soda, but Root Beer has always been my favorite. With my health issues today, the fact that they are caffeine free is a real bonus.
Jerry, so glad you are still alive and kicking, guzzling root beer to your heart’s delight.
